IAACS Conferences
The First World Conference was held in Shanghai, China in October 2003 on the campus of East China Normal University. Participating were three hundred scholars and researchers from Asia, the Americas, Africa, Australia, and Europe. After holding the 2006 conference in Europe, the IAACS conference moves to Africa in 2009, to South America in 2012, to North America in 2015, and back to Asia in 2018.
2006
Tampere, Finland MAY 21-24, 2006
The Tampere Conference will provide a multidisciplinary forum for scholars, researchers, school personnel, educational policy-makers and students around the world to discuss the key issues in curriculum and in education more broadly. The conference will encourage participation from general education, vocational and professional education as well as higher education colleagues and students to join the "complicated conversation" toward the construction of an increasingly sophisticated field of curriculum studies, one worthy of those teachers and students who, each day, nearly everywhere on the globe, labor to understand themselves and the world they inhabit.
As a field of research, inquiry, and study, curriculum has recently undergone a paradigm shift. Popular conceptions of curriculum as protocol and as social engineering (in which implementation, evaluation and "accountability" feature prominently) were judged as devaluing the intellectual character and moral responsibility of the teaching profession. No longer only an intellectual supplement to institutional practice, the field is now a theoretically enriched field of study where curriculum is conceived not only in institutional, political, racial, gendered, phenomenological, postmodern, autobiographical, aesthetic, theological, and international terms. From local, regional, and national formations of intellectual strength and cultural distinctiveness, curriculum studies can undertake the creation of a transnational curriculum studies field, a global public space for scholarship, for dissension, debate, and, on occasion, solidarity. Join us in Tampere.
